Understanding Routes and Waypoints #
MAPTATTOO allows you to store Routes that are composed of multiple waypoints.
MAPTATTOO also allows you to store standalone waypoints (Waypoints that are not included in a pre-defined Route.
We typically recommend using standalone waypoints for your local points of interest and routes when planning trips.
Selecting a Waypoint #
You can select a waypoint by touching or navigating to the SELECT WAYPOINT menu entry in the Route Management Menu.
Once a waypoint is selected, you will be able to:
- Go to Waypoint
- Delete the waypoint
- Edit the Waypoint’s name
Creating a Waypoint #
You can create a waypoint by selecting the “NEW WAYPOINT” entry in the Route Management Menu.
Waypoints can be created in 3 different ways:
- TOUCH / ARROWS: this allows you to touch the screen where you want to add a waypoint or use the arrows on your keypad to move the waypoint on the chart
- SEARCH FEATURE: this allows you to search a chart feature (for example a Buoy or a Lighthouse) and create a waypoint at this exact location
- LAT / LONG: this allows you to type in a latitude and longitude (in the format specified in the settings)
Selecting a Route #
Just use the “SELECT ROUTE” entry in the Route Management menu and:
- Start the Route: this will show you an additional widget showing distance to the next waypoint, bearing, course deviation and speed toward the waypoint (VMG)
- Delete a Route
- Edit its name
Creating a Route #
You can create a new route by selecting the “NEW ROUTE” entry in the Route Management menu.
A route is a series of points that you can create the same way as standalone waypoints are created:
- TOUCH / ARROWS
- SEARCH FEATURE
- LAT / LONG
When you are done adding points, you can validate and give the route a name.
Route Functions #
When a route is started, you can, you will see the route widget, showing the following information:
- Name of the route and name of the next waypoint
- Distance to the next waypoint
- Effective speed made toward the next waypoint (“Velocity Made Good”)
- Bearing to the next waypoint
- Course deviation (ex: <10° means the waypoint is 10 degrees to the left of your heading)
When en route, the Route Menu will allow you to:
- Stop it by selecting the STOP ROUTE entry
- Manually select the next waypoint (MAPTATTOO should do that automatically for you when you pass a point but you may want to override that)
- Manually select the previous waypoint
- Reverting the route. This is helpful when you have a one-way route and you want to return.
